Effective Fall 2000 for all new freshman and effective Fall
2002 for all new transfer students, a new policy was
implemented requiring all new freshmen students entering
that semester, and any semester after that, to have their
major signed by the time they earn 56 credit hours. If you
are pursuing an elementary education degree with the three
minor option, you must have your minors signed in lieu of
the major.
The consequence of not having your major signed by the time
you earn 56 credit hours will result in a hold being placed
on your registration for the upcoming registration period.
To sign your major or minors, you need to contact the
department offering the major/minors you wish to pursue. You
will find their phone numbers and addresses in the
CMU Directory
or class schedule book.
The department will give you instructions on how to meet
with a departmental advisor to sign your major or minors.
If you are still undecided about what you want to choose as
a major or minors, please talk with your
academic advisor in
your residence hall or in the Student Service Court. The
Career Services
Office is another great resource in helping you choose
the right career path. Both of these offices can offer
assistance in helping you make a decision that will best
meet your career goals.
If you have further questions regarding this policy, please

Coordinator of Registrar's Services.
